ZOO BAR

136 NORTH 14TH STREET LINCOLN NE

Zoo Bar has been a staple for downtown Lincoln music since 1973. They started out as a blues bar, but have lately been bringing in music from all genres. Don't know when their next show is? It's tonight. Can't make it tonight? There's another show tomorrow. And the next day. And the next day.

BANDS.

BIG NAMES IN BLUES.

Since Zoo Bar started out as a blues bar, they haven't had a lot of big-name punk bands. Famous blues bands, however, there are plenty.

Some of the bigger names in the blues world that they've had are Luther Allison, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Irma Thomas, Mavis Staples, Delbert McClinton and Ruthie Foster.

The Zoo Bar opened in 1973 and has been a popular live music venue ever since. They are known for their nightly music shows! In the year 2000, long-time owner Larry Boehmer retired, passing down the bar to his sons, Jeff and Tim, and manager Pete Watters.

The Zoo while Larry was owner was full of energy and soul, and those are the same traits that the three owners planned to continue, and they have.

THE HISTORY.

ZOO THEN IS

ZOO NOW.

PUNK SCENE.

FROM THE ZOO'S PERSPECTIVE.

The Booking Manager at Zoo Bar recalls the Lincoln punk scene to have been much bigger during the mid '80s and early '90s. It has definitely died out since then, making it much smaller, but with the same amount of heart and soul as before.

As for Zoo Bar, they didn't have many punk shows until the mid 2000s.
